There are a variety of institutions which offer online college courses in Delaware including, but not limited to, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical & Community College, Wilmington University, and the University of Delaware. The University of Delaware is the state’s largest university with approximately 16,000 undergraduates. The school has a lengthy history tracing its roots back to 1743, though it was not officially chartered as the University of Delaware until 1833. The main campus is now in Newark, but there are also campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown. The school was named a Public Ivy by Greene’s Guide and their undergraduate chemical engineering program was ranked 10th in the nation by US News and World Report in 2009.

Founded in 1683, the city became the capital in 1777 because its central location provided more defenses against British troops. Newark. 12 miles southwest of Wilmington, Newark is home to the University of Delaware. Surrounded by a large amount of public park land, Newark also offers many outdoor activities including hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
