Deakin University Partners with University of Catalonia to Develop MOOC Platform

To help facilitate the launch of its upcoming massive open online course, Deakin University in Australia has partnered with the University of Catalonia in Spain to develop a content delivery platform. When the University of Catalonia was established in 1994 it was the first entirely online university in the world.

The commercial agreement, which is considered to be very general in nature, stipulates that staff from both universities, overseen by Deakin's pro vice chancellor of learning futures, will work together to develop the platform. The specific details of the platform remain unknown, however University of Catalonia is known for using a "learning stack" approach which foregoes a single learning management system and incorporates a variety of online learning tools.
