Online College Courses in Wyoming (WY)
Wyoming is known for the beautiful scenery of its mountain ranges, national parks, recreation areas, and national monuments, as well as for being the least populous state in the union. To serve its small population, Wyoming has a higher education system that is small in size, but big on quality. The only major research university in the state is the University of Wyoming, in the city of Laramie, but Wyoming also has seven public community colleges serving different areas of the state. Online college courses in Wyoming are available through in-state and out-of-state institutions, including for-profit and nonprofit schools.
Laramie. Laramie is a college town of about 30,000 people situated near the southeast corner of Wyoming. The city is a boon for outdoors enthusiasts, as it has an abundance of city parks, and its proximity to mountain ranges makes it perfect for skiing, mountain biking, and hiking.
- University of Wyoming. The University of Wyoming is a public research institution offering bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate and post-master's certificates. Cheyenne. Home to more than 59,000 people, Cheyenne is the capital and largest city in Wyoming. The city lays claim to hosting the largest outdoor rodeo in the nation every year in July, and government is a principal industry due to the number of state offices here and the proximity of F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
- College America-Cheyenne. College America is a private, for-profit institution that offers associate and bachelor's degrees, with the primary focus being associate degrees. The college offers programs both online and on-ground through its Cheyenne campus, with a variety of programs available in business, graphic arts, healthcare, and information technology. College America has been nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges since 2005.
- Laramie County Community College. Laramie County Community College is a comprehensive, public community college offering associate degrees and certificates. In the 2009-2010 school year, the college offered 82 academic programs that lead to an associate degree, as well as 27 career programs that lead to a certificate. The college is well-known for its quality wind energy technician program, as Wyoming is a burgeoning area for wind energy development. LCCC has articulation agreements with at least 18 different universities, including Ashford University, the University of Phoenix, and the University of Wyoming, which allow for smoother transfer of students to many four-year schools.
- University of Phoenix-Cheyenne Campus. The University of Phoenix-Cheyenne is a private, for-profit institution offering bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates. The University of Phoenix is well-known for being the largest provider of online higher education in the nation. While the university is best known for its online programs, the school also offers on-ground programs through its Cheyenne campus, as well as programs that offer both on-ground and online courses. The University of Phoenix-Cheyenne is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission.
