Online College Courses in Maryland (MD)

Home to more than 5.7 million people, Maryland is primarily made up of small cities and towns along Chesapeake Bay and further inland near the Allegheny Mountains. The seventh state to join the union, Maryland has a rich history dating back to 1634. Maryland is also home to some of the nation's most respected and established institutes of higher education, including world-renowned Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and the 12 institutions in the University System of Maryland, which includes six University of Maryland campuses and several regional colleges and universities. Maryland also has several community colleges that serve students across the state, many of which are part of a consortium called MarylandOnline.org. The organization has 20 member colleges and universities who have teamed up to offer and promote distance learning opportunities and online courses in Maryland.

Baltimore. Located about 40 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., Baltimore is Maryland's largest city and home to many of its colleges and universities. Sometimes called "Charm City," Baltimore dates back to the 1600s and draws visitors and new residents alike with its historic landmarks, shopping and dining, and waterfront attractions. The city is home to several colleges and universities, many of which provide learning opportunities to residents through online college courses in Baltimore and to residents elsewhere.

• Baltimore City Community College. Serving more than 7,000 undergraduate students, this two-year public college provides students with the opportunities to earn certificates and associate degrees in a variety of fields. Part of MarylandOnline, the college offers a variety of courses online, as well as some degrees which can be earned entirely online, including dietetic technician, business management, criminal justice, and law enforcement.
• Coppin State University. More than 3,800 students attend Coppin State, pursuing bachelor's and master's degrees, and post-baccalaureate certificates at the four-year public institution. Coppin State offers degree programs in nursing, education, history, and criminal justice.
• Goucher College. This private, not-for-profit college serves roughly 2,300 students and provides them with the opportunity to earn bachelor's and master's degrees and post-baccalaureate certificates. Students can take online courses in fields including arts administration and historical preservation.
• Johns Hopkins University. A large, private, not-for-profit university, Johns Hopkins serves more than 20,000 students through certificates and bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Johns Hopkins offers courses in communications, energy policy and climate, museum studies, economics, and other fields.
• Maryland Institute College of Art. This four-year, private, not-for-profit school serves just more than 2,000 students on campus through certificates, bachelor's, and master's degrees. MICA offers degrees and courses in a variety of art-related fields, such as animation, ceramics, photography, graphic design, and film.
• Morgan State University. Serving nearly 8,000 predominately undergraduate students, this four-year public university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees as well as post-baccalaureate certificates. Part of MarylandOnline, Morgan State offers a wide variety of courses and degree programs that are entirely online, including courses in hospitality, math, electrical engineering, philosophy, religion, education, and business.
• Notre Dame of Maryland University. Rooted in the Catholic faith, this four-year, private university serves nearly 3,000 students and offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of fields. Online courses can be taken in contemporary communication, business leadership, management, literature, and other fields.
• The Community College of Baltimore County. The public Community College of Baltimore County is one of the state's largest schools, serving more than 26,000 students through associate degree and certificate programs. The college offers several for-credit and not-for-credit online courses in a variety of fields, including auditing, medical terminology, astronomy, nursing, and legal ethics.
• University of Baltimore. Serving more than 6,500 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, this four-year public institution is located right in the center of Baltimore. Part of MarylandOnline, the university offers several online courses and offers degrees that can be earned entirely online, including business administration and public administration.
• University of Maryland- Baltimore. The founding campus of the University of Maryland system serves more than 6,000 students in certificate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. It offers online coursework in fields including dental hygiene and drug safety.
• University of Maryland- Baltimore County. Serving nearly 13,000 students, UMBC is an honors university that provides students the opportunities to earn post-baccalaureate certificates and bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. UMBC offers online courses and fully online degree programs, including master's programs in emergency health services, and instructional systems development, and non-credit courses in ethical hacking, human resource management, and financial planning.

College Park.A suburb about 10 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., College Park is a city of only 30,000 residents, which is fewer people than attend the state's largest university located in the city. College Park is home to the flagship campus of the University of Maryland, which provides online college courses in College Park and to residents across the state, country, and world.

• University of Maryland- College Park. The flagship school of the University System of Maryland, the College Park campus serves nearly 38,000 students through certificates and bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The university offers online courses in a variety of fields each semester, including American studies, anthropology, economics, health, sociology, and women's studies.

Salisbury. Off the Chesapeake Bay near the Delaware border, Salisbury is home to about 30,000 residents. The city is also home to a regional university and a community college, both of which provide educational opportunities through online college courses in Salisbury and to residents elsewhere.

• Salisbury University. Serving more than 8,000 students, this four-year, public, regional university offers students bachelor's and master's degrees and post-baccalaureate certificates. Salisbury offers several hybrid and online courses, including courses in biology, business, education, data mining, and social work.
• Wor-Wic Community College. This two-year public college serves more than 4,000 students in associate degree and certificate programs. Part of MarylandOnline, Wor-Wic offers online courses in accounting, nutrition, history, sociology, and other fields.
